SURPRISE!!!

 So...I cannot even describe how this week has been. En serio! For starters, mom, that it the most beautiful black eye that I have ever seen. Nice work Asian Aimee :) Ha! The Snake sounds fun. Party next summer what what! :)

     Ok, so we know that JJ and Juan were planning on getting baptized this past Saturday. It was a struggle and a half trying to get everything put together, but we pulled it out in the end. Hermana Webb and I were running around like chickens with our heads cut off all week long trying to put the program together. No worries, we finally got it to go. JJ was grinning from ear to ear and so was his dad. We were worried that Juan wouldn't be able to baptize his son due to some back issues, but he said that the day of the baptism that he was feeling fine and that he was ready to do it. JJ invited a bunch of his friends and he was just so cute! He had to be baptized twice because the prayer wasn't said right, but it turned out. After the baptism we asked him how he was feeling and he just said that he was so happy but that he didn't know how to even explain it. I just wanted to cry I was so happy for him! He'll be a great little missionary some day! Also, he bore his testimony and said how happy he was that he felt the Spirit and how grateful he was for the hermanas believing in him. TENDER!

     Juan was also so excited! His daughter kept on trying to make a huge deal out of the event-which is totally understandable because she is the only member in her family and her dad was getting baptized. He was just content to finally be getting baptized. He kept on thanking us and shaking our hands. He is one of the most distinguished and intellectual people that I have ever met. I asked him how he was feeling and he said that he was just so happy that he was finally able to be baptized :) He really just kept on shaking our hands all night and telling us how great we all are for the work that we do as missionaries. I wanted to cry!

     Ok, and for the other great part this week: on Tuesday I get a text saying...wait for it...RICARDO IS GETTING BAPTIZED ON SATURDAY THE 2ND! SURPRISE!!! What in the world!? Yeah, so on Saturday before JJ and Juan were baptized I was able to go back to Stockton to see Ricardo get baptized. He asked me to give the talk on the baptism. Hermana Cardullo gave the one on the Holy Ghost. Funny side note: I walk in and Hermana Cardullo is freaking out and she looks at me and asks, "Look at me. How do I look? Am I a hot mess, or just hot?" I was laughing so hard! Ricardo looked SO adorable in his white jumpsuit! Hermano Zavala Baptized him. Guys, you don't even know how much I love that family! We are going to be best friends for life! I asked JP when he was going to get baptized and he said that he was working on it :) I promised him that I would come back though. Rosa is also still working on picking a date :) 

     Here in Tracy we are still working with Miriam and Alex. They didn't come to church this Sunday, but they still have one more week. We are going to talk with them tonight :) It has been almost impossible to get ahold of Kenia. We are going to just try and catch her at home like we did the first time. It has been ridiculously hot this week and I feel like I am melting. However, we are working through the heat. I think there was a storm last night so it cooled down to 75. I had to wear a jacket :)

     Well, I love you all so much! I am doing fantastic! Really, this is great! Hermana Webb is fantastic! We had interviews with President Jardine and Sister Jardine this week. Their daughter is moving to Mountain Green :) I told them that I don't even feel like I have to train her. They assured me that I have one of the most sacred callings as a missionary to be a trainer. It made me feel really good :)

There Are Always Blessings To Be Found

     So how is life in good old Utah (or wherever else you are reading this e-mail)? Things are going pretty swell here. There has been so much stuff happening that I can't possibly tell you everything! So I'll go with the most important.

     We are going to have 2 baptisms this Saturday. One is JJ and he is a stud! He's 13 and he knows more than most of the members. I can't express in words how blessed I feel to be able to teach him. He always asks the best questions and he is so spiritual and he is so excited to pass the sacrament with his dad. We are really hoping that his dad (who was baptized about a year ago) will be able to baptize him. He has some health problems that may possibly prevent him, but we are going to do all that we can!

     The other person that is being baptized is Juan. He is the dad of one of our members. He came here to live with her a while ago and he started coming to church and he really likes it. He has read the Book of Mormon once and is going strong on his second time. Yeah. He's legit. He has such a strong testimony and he is SO ready! I can't even describe how great these people are!

     We are also teaching Miriam and Alex. Miriam is 13 and Alex is 12. They are brother and sister. Their dad is a long-lost member and their mom is also listening to our lessons. The problem is that they have to work on Sundays in the flea market so they can't come to church. Funny story: I have a bag with me that I bought in the flea market last year with Hermana Toro. Their dad saw my bag and was like, "Where did you get that? I sell those bags." I told him that I bought it in Galt and it turns out that I bought the bag from their mom and her brother! WHAT!? He was like, "Yeah...I remember my brother-in-law was telling me about two girls who bought bags. One spoke Spanish super well and the other one not so much." I was like, "I was the one who couldn't speak Spanish!" He was like, "Oh wow! Well, you speak it almost perfectly now." Proud tear. But yeah. The kids are so cute! They both came to church last week, but only Miriam came yesterday. She LOVED it! She's super shy, but she made friends with JJ and a couple of the young women. Alex used to be an atheist, but told us last week, "Hermanas, I don't know that Jesus is real, but I have faith that he is." MELTING! That was so cute! So yeah, they have a date forAugust 16th. They may have to push it back just a little, but they still want to do it.

     We had another miracle this last week. We went to visit a member and her niece Kenia is not a member. We knocked and Kenia opened the door. She let us in and we started talking. Apparently, she has been to church a ton! We asked her if she wanted to learn more about it and she said yes. We taught her the restoration and the spirit was super strong! I told Hermana Webb to invite her to be baptized. She did it in broken Spanish and Kenia agreed. I clarified the invite (just to make sure she understood what she just agreed to) and she was like, "Yeah, I want to do it. I have noticed that there is something special about the church." Holy cow! I immediately thought of August 30th(without even knowing what day it was) and invited her to a date. She thought it was a little soon, but agreed to pray about it! So please pray for her that she can know if she is supposed to be baptized on that day!

     Training is interesting. It's not as bad as I thought it would be. My companion-Hermana Kirsten Webb from Hurricane, UT-is WAY more bold than I am and she has no fear of speaking. Bless her! She testifies like no other and she is here to get it done. I LOVE working with her! Shotgunning is a little hard, but there are always blessings to be found as long as we are diligent.

     I got an e-mail from the President Skinner saying how happy he was to see me and that he was looking forward to releasing me. Um.....thanks? I'm trying not to be trunky. We live with the Robinsons and they are great! For now we are living with the other Tracy Hermanas and that is a party and a half! Except they keep asking me what I'm looking forward to about going home...whyyyyyy???? Anywho, Bubbacito is in the mission field. His trainer looks great! And by great I really mean tall. HA! It will be fun to train while he is being trained!

Training and Shotgunning .12 or .24

So, this week has been full of miracles and everything of the like. On Wednesday I shed a couple of proud tears for Elder Freestone and then got to work. I was just telling dad that I have been out for a long time, I'm tired, and I am working very hard to stay focused here. All of my mission I have been happy with where I am at time-wise, but reading Bubba's e-mail made me want to go back to the MTC. We truly are God's army. No better way to fight than side-by-side with your brother :)

     As you can tell by the title I am training :) I love Hermana Cardullo and I am super sad to leave her :( I guess it's just another chance to grow! My last two transfers I will train my little baby. Pray for both of us please! I am also shotgunning. For those of you who are asking yourselves, "Shotgunning? .12 or .24?" The answer is neither. It goes like this: a previous area has been split into 2. I am going to take over that area with my new baby. If any of you remember, it's exactly what I did with Hermana Toro in Lodi. I'm super nervous, but I am also excited. I've said all of my mission that the only way to train is to shotgun because it will put you and your trainee on a more level ground-seeing as you both have no idea what the area is like. Learning together :)

     So, this week! Dad informed me that I should be sending more names home for you to pray for. I thought I did, but I'll try to be better about it. This week we have really been focusing on Ricardo and JP Zavala. They are the cousins of the Zavala family which consists of Hermano Zavala, his brother Jose Carmen, Hnos 4 boys: Aaron, Refugio, Johnny, and Jahir. Also, Jose Carmen's son JP and their nephew Ricardo. They have a friend Mikey that lives there too. Sometimes there is another one of the sons, Edgar, there as well. What it is like to be in their house? Just imagine a man cave-but full house scale. I LOVE THEM! We have to take a woman to go and teach them unless Refugio's girlfriend Jackie is there. But they are so great. They all came to a wedding/baptism that took place Saturday night and they loved it! Ricardo wants to get baptized so he can have that clean slate. He's been through a lot. He has a date for the 26th. We may have to possibly move it due to policies and things the church has. No worries. Just keep praying for him! Also, JP. He is very smart! We told him his baptism was next and he was like, "Mmmm...maybe next month." I'll take that! He thinks he has to read the entire Book of Mormon to know if it's true. Not so. We just bore our testimony of the Book of Mormon. The spirit was so strong! Those two are so solid and they have the best examples in the world! Just pray for them!

     Also, pray for the Lopez family. We went over last night to talk to Roberto and Kenya about how they would feel if Rosa got baptized first and they followed when they were able to get work off. Rosa really wants to get baptized. We asked her why last night and she told us it's because she wants to be a missionary and share the word of God with other people-just like we did with them. She also said that she feels like it's something that is good. The spirit was super strong! Also, in church during sunday school we were teaching the class (I apologize to every teacher I ever misbehaved for) and we asked all of the kids if they thought that the Book of Mormon was true and they all were like, "People tell me it is, but I'm not sure." Only 1 said they think it is. Then we asked Rosa and she was like, "Yes I think it's true because I feel good when I read it and I can find answers to questions in it." Don't worry...our 13 year-old investigator is showing up all of the members. :) So yeah, she has a date for the 24th. Pray that she will be ready.

     So many other great things this week, but look where the time went. I LOVE you all so much!

Happy Week Of Miracles

OH MY GOSH BUBBA I CAN'T BELIEVE IT IS FINALLY TIME! We've been talking about this moment forever and it's finally here! Holy beans! I can't wait! I get a proud tear every time that I talk about it! I tell everyone I can that my little brother is going to be a missionary at the same time as me. Boo-yah!

     So, how was my week? Fantastic! It was a happy week of miracles :) We'll start with the 4th. I was slightly bummed that I missed out on the usual tradition of Plain City and the parade with all of the fam bam. However, it sounds like you all put your own little twist on things. We started the day out by doing some service for a lady and her husband that we met at the open house last week. Her grandparents had a house and the people who lived there let the back yard go to waste so  it was pretty trashed. We were there for a few hours :) We did our weekly planning and attempted to teach a few people. Not even the Hispanic people want to be bothered on the 4th of July...we went to the church and it was a mandatory activity for north and south Stockton combined. We played soccer for a long time and I have some beautiful battle scars :) We were also able to watch 17 Miracles which was great! I, of course, cried like a baby. I'm just like that. We came home and went out to the dock with the ASL sisters and lit off some sparklers and threw some pop-its. We also enjoyed some rather tasty gummy bears-shout out to the Dave and Janet Freestone family :) We watched some super great fireworks and sang some fantastic hymns on the dock and just enjoyed our freedoms :) It was pretty fun :)

     Yesterday was fast Sunday and it was so great! And you know that must mean something because you know how I get when I don't have food...o_O  So, we both fasted to help our investigators and we saw some great miracles! Ricardo and Rosa came to church again. Mia stayed in Primary by herself and that in and of itself. Then, on our way back to their house we asked Rosa if she would prepare herself to be baptized on the 24th of July and she said yes! She really wants to get baptized and her parents asked if she could do it without them. We told her that it is preferred that the whole family gets baptized at the same time, but she can do it. I would feel fine because she has family support and her mom is really trying to be able to get a job that doesn't require her to work on Sunday. And the Gonzalez family is willing to drive them. Also, we went to Ricardo and J.P.'s. Let me just start by saying that the Zavala Family is so cool! They have testimonies like you would not even imagine! So we decided to invite them both to be baptized. We talked about why we do it and how it can give us a clean slate. They both said yes! We invited them to set a goal to be baptized on the the 26th. Ricardo said yes and J.P. said he wants some more time to think about it. But he will pray about the 26th anyway. We are going to teach them the Plan of Salvation next time. I think it will really help. Yesterday was a such a tender mercy from the Lord. 

     We also met a lady named Cristina and that was a crazy miracle! We were going to teach her the Plan of Salvation and nothing was really flowing. We tried a few things and it didn't work. Hermana Cardullo whipped out the Plan of Salvation pamphlet and Cristina was like, "I've seen that before!" Right after my husband died 3 years ago I was cleaning out a drawer full of his old things and I found that pamphlet along with a bunch of other like it. Turns out her husband had been meeting with the missionaries behind her back right before he died. He had also ditched his church to attend ours. She was like, "Maybe he liked yours better and now he sent you here to tell me to check it out?" It was so cool!

     Well, I love you all family and I look forward to next week when I get to read about Bubba's MTC experience. :) Transfers are next week so I won't get on till Tuesday. If you don't think that the mail will make it then just sent it to the mission office. Love you all! I'm getting old because I got my flight plans this last week.... crazy!

I Can Do Hard Things

This week has been interesting. In case you all were wondering, missionary is also another code word for therapist, so that's what we did this week. We had like 5 people just unload their life stories on us it was rough. I learned things about people that I did not want to know, and also things that made me feel a lot more grateful for the life that I do have. Count your many blessings, that's all I'm sayin...

     So, we received a referral from the Elders this week for a Roberto Lopez. We went to visit him and his little family. His wife Kenya, and two daughters Rosa and Mia. Rosa is 13 and she doesn't speak much English because she only came over from Mexico about a year ago. We taught Roberto and Kenya the Restoration and they loved it! Neither one of them grew up with a solid religious background so they are learning like little kids...I LOVE IT! We invited them to be baptized and they said that they want to learn more first, but it is something that they want to do. Then they said that they wanted their whole family to do it. We mentioned that we have our church services on Sunday and they turned to each other and said that they need to ask for work off so that they can come. How precious are they? We didn't even have to ask! Then, we came over Thursday and taught them the Plan of Salvation using the little drawings. We had some fun with them because they want Rosa to learn too! We had a mini Noche de Hogar :) Then, because they have to work on Sundays, we invited them to come to the Saturday night session of stake conference. THEY CAME! We haven't had a chance to talk to them since then because they had to leave early, but we are going over tonight and will extend them a baptismal date. I AM SO EXCITED! They are the cutest little family and the Spirit just radiates with them. We are working on getting some friends over there for Rosa because she is shy and she wants to go to Mutual.

     We have a member in our area se llama Hermana Elizabeth. She hasn't been active because her esposo won't let her come to church. Well, he had to work late so she was able to come to Stake Conference with us on Sunday and that was the first time that she had been to church in about 15 years. CRAZY! She was so excited that I thought I saw her shed a tear when she walked through the doors.

     Stake conference was great! They re-did our presidency. We had 2 members of the Seventy here: Elder Sitati and Elder Bassett. The cool thing: the missionaries had to do translation. Elder Ruiz is a native and he did most of it, but her wanted a break in the middle. He asked me to go up and I was like, "Ya hurt your what? Are you nuts?" Then , Elder LaDuke turned around and starts chanting Elder Villalva's famous line, "Do it and your cool. Do it and Your cool." Dang it. I can't say no to that. I translated one talk and it wasn't awful. I actually thought I did pretty good-all things considered. It made me realize though, I can do hard things :)

     What else? Well, not missionary-related, the the World Cup is in full swing and all of our members/investigators are loving their lives. It breaks my heart to have to tell them to shut the games off. However, we have some pretty dedicated members who are more than happy to keep us updates. Hermana Cardullo is happy that Italia won :) Cheer loud for the red, white, and blue today!

     Well, my time is up. I love you all! I am doing pretty well. Me and Cardullo and getting along super well. I really love her! She's funny! Never a dull moment. We're working hard. Keep up the good work! MWAH!

"Following Up"

   I was thinking the other day, "I'm too young to feel..." (all you George Strait fans can finish that one). Thankfully, the people here say I look 18-20. I would like to thank my parents for my good genes, my grandparents for reminding me to wear sunscreen, and anyone else I may have forgotten about.

     This week has been nuts! On Wednesday morning we dropped off Hermana Dando in Galt. Yup...definitely could have watered the grass with my tears. But, asi es la vida misional. I love her SOOOOOO much! Sister Potter came up to me in church yesterday and asked how I was. I went to say, "Great!" Because it's true. But then I had to choke back some tears when she hugged me. Transfers....some days you love them, and some days you hate them. But hey, "A Donde Me Mandes, Ire Senor..." Hopefully we can see each other before she flies home in August.

     We picked up Hermana Cardullo and came back down. She is from Provo, UT. Her dad is Italian. If I could pick one word to describe here it would be: Fabulous. She loves everyone and always says the funniest things. She is very in tune with the Spirit and you can feel it every time she opens her mouth in a lesson. I've never seen any other missionary do that. She started her mission here in Stockton so the people here have been really excited to have her back. It's been really fun. We hit the pavement running-which is good because I like to wallow in self-pity sometimes and she didn't let me do that. We've been teaching like crazy. Hermana Cardullo is really good at talking with everyone and we have seen many blessings from that. We have added some cool new investigators and we have some super solid lessons set up for tonight! I love her and I know that I am going to learn a lot from her :)

     Hermana Cardullo and I have decided to really try to push working more effectively with the members to strengthen the ward here. We were counting up our less-active families and there is something like 24. To quote myself, "We have a buffet of less-actives to chose from." I never realized how important members are until my mission. I have officially made a resolve to be a better member when I get home. I WILL do my visiting teaching...no matter how many excuses I can come up with not to.

     We have had a really great week overall. I think one thing that I have noticed is that promising blessings to people when you invite them to keep commitments. And the great thing is that it doesn't just apply to investigators. It applies to us too. God has promised us so many blessings that we can't even count them. We just have to do our part. So this is me being a missionary. I am following up with all who may be reading this letter. Last conference Elder Ballard followed up/challenged us to do 3 things:

1. Use the full name of the church when stating which religion you belong to

2. Extend the invitation to hear the missionary discussions to 1 person quarterly (4 times per year/every 3 months for those who are a little mathematically challenged)

3. Every member-regardless of current activity level in the church-to obtain a copy of Preach My Gospel

     How are you all doing on that? Good? Bad? Ugly? I encourage you all to do these things that a representative of Jesus Christ has asked you to do. If you do these things you have been promised that many blessings! Here is the link to the full talk by Elder Ballard "Following Up". Seriously though. The work is hastening. We have been hearing that for ages now. With the new age change and the technology available to missionaries that work is expanding faster than ever. There is no greater time than now to heed the call of President McKay "Every member a missionary." As Elder Christofferson put it, you don't have to have a black badge on your chest to be a full-time missionary. And, as my daddy's good buddy Mark Schweppe says, "Do it. Do it right. Do it right NOW!"
